Yanukovych: The Power of Putin - the weakness of Timoshenko

Presidential contender Viktor Yanukovych insisted that Ukraine should have a neutral status and did not engage in military units. He stated this in a live transmission of “Freedom of speech” channel ICTV.

“Ukraine is situated between two major powers - the EU, which already include a separate state, as a president and foreign minister, and Russia. Situated between these powerful neighbors, Ukraine should have a neutral status,” - he said.

Commenting on the improvement of relations of Kiev and Minsk, which took place recently and which is not like Moscow, Viktor Yanukovych said that “we should not divide the Minsk or Moscow - Ukraine must do what it favorably.”

The question that relations with Russia, he has a powerful competitor - Yulia Tymoshenko, Viktor Yanukovych said he understands why Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is comfortable to work with the current government. “I am well aware of Putin, I can understand why he said, comfortably, as they raised the price of gas to Europe now, and we set this goal only in 2012. We set the condition that we need time,” - said the leader of the Party regions.

He noted that now the Ukrainian enterprises can not compete with Russia, because Russia did not raise domestic gas prices, the Ukrainian truth.

Commenting on the cooperation with NATO, Viktor Yanukovych noted that Ukraine should work with him as cooperating and Russia. “I believe that we are a European country. And as a European country should take part in cooperation with such blocs as NATO” - said the leader of the Party of Regions.
