Former head of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry arrested

Court in Kiev ruled to arrest Valeria Ivashchenko, who served as acting defense minister in the government of Yulia Tymoshenko, reported IA “Ukrainian News“.

As described in the General Prosecutor’s Office, Ivashchenko, was arrested in a criminal case on the illegal privatization of Feodosia ship & mechanical plant.

Retired officials suspect that he has contributed to the illegal sale of the assets of the plant, including - deep-water berths, which have strategic importance.

Time of arrest Ivashchenko not specified, it is known only that he will stay in custody “at the time of the pre-trial investigation in criminal cases.”

As previously reported, former Acting Defence Minister detained on 21 August.
