Price for gas transit through Ukraine to increase by 60 percent

This evening on Nov. 19 said the prime minister of Russia Vladimir Putin at a press conference following talks with his Ukrainian counterpart Yulia Tymoshenko in Yalta.
“The fee for transit will increase more than pays to Ukraine for Russia’s gas - about 60 per cent. We are ready, there’s nothing special”, - quotes Putin’s statement was the Interfax news agency. Russia Prime Minister stressed that next year will cease to operate 20 per cent discount on gas for Ukraine, and, accordingly, will increase payment for the transit. It adds the ITAR-TASS, in response to Yulia Tymoshenko noted that from 1 January 2010, Ukraine is the first time will receive a market price for gas transit, the income from which the country will amount to millions of dollars.

Following negotiations, the parties also agreed to adjust the Russo-Ukrainian gas agreement in the field. Putin said that after registration of these agreements, “no one has no problems should arise and we will meet the New Year without any problems.
In addition, he said that Gazprom is given a direct order not to apply sanctions to Ukraine, having in view the penalties for failure to select the volume of gas. To ensure that this problem did not arise in the future, the parties agreed to reduce the contractual gas supplies in 2010, Putin added.
