Lviv abolished the Great Patriotic War

Lviv regional council on May 25 vote, approved a decree according to which the territory of the region, the term “Great Patriotic War” will no longer be used, said ZiK.
According to deputies, is the phrase “does not match the Ukrainian historical reality.”

The decree provides that each year on May 8-9 will be celebrated on Memorial Day of the Second World War. In this festive activities should include actions aimed at “full and objective coverage of the history of armed national liberation movement of Ukrainians in the 40-50-ies of XX and honor of the participants in this movement.”

In western Ukraine the participants of the armed national liberation movement, commonly referred to as people who fought with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, that is Bandera.
