Ukraine is dying: the population has less than 46 million in the year the country loses an average of almost 400 thousand people

The population of Ukraine continues to decline: the inhabitants of the country was 46 million less than this as RIA “New Region”, said today the State Committee of Statistics. According to authorities, the first in November 2009 Ukraine’s population was 45 million 999 thousand 934 people, down in the last month of almost 11,5 thousand, and since the beginning of the year - to 144 thousand

At the same time, the mortality rate in the country still exceeds the birth rate. According to Goskomstat, for 11 months in 2009 were born in the Ukraine 432 361 people, while 586 854 have died. The natural decrease of population was 154 493 people.

Following 11 months of this year, the birth rate exceeds the death rate in Kyiv (1.6 per 1000 people), Rivne region (2.0 per 1000 people), Ivano-Frankivsk (0.1 per 1000 people) and Volyn (0,9 per 1000 population) areas. Highest fertility rate registered by Goskomstat in Transcarpathia, where the rate is 2.3 per 1000 people.

The highest death rate in Chernihiv Oblast - minus 10 per 1000 people, and the average for Ukraine, this figure was minus 4 per 1000 people. ”

However, in view of out-migration the population of Ukraine has increased since the beginning of 2009 almost 10,7 thousand people.

Judging by the pace of decline, the annual Ukrainian population decreased an average of almost 400 thousand, resulting from early 2000-ies Ukraine lost more than 3 million people. According to Goskomstat, for the first января 2001, the strength of the Ukrainian population was 49, 291 million
