Ukraine still has no more than 4-5 years “transit freemen”

Interview to REGNUM News from Azerbaijan’s independent expert in the fuel and energy sphere, PhD Chingiz Veliyev.

A REGNUM News: Mr. Veliyev, recently the president of Ukraine, an ally of Azerbaijan on GUAM, Viktor Yushchenko said his country has so much free gas pumped to Europe, which may have 150 years to use the free supplies from Russia.

It is difficult to comment on the statement is not aging veterans soul maidan populism in particular, made in anticipation of presidential elections in Ukraine. These statements are not based on concrete figures and are intended to uninformed voters. Not to mention the 20% discount for the current year the value of Russia’s gas to Ukraine on the average European price. It is worth mentioning that the domestic gas price for Ukraine’s population is lower than in Russia, not to mention a strategic partner of Azerbaijan in Kiev, where Ukrainian above it almost 2 times. Note that while Ukraine is not an exporter of gas, and one of Europe’s largest importer.

Perhaps, Mr Yushchenko started the campaign far more pleasant to the allegations that Ukraine someone and something must be up to 150 years into the future than publicize the need to raise gas prices in accordance with the requirements of the International Monetary Fund, tightly linking them with the liberation of Ukraine the next tranche of loans.
